American Lit continued "The Outcasts of Poker Flat" and were assigned 1-9 on page 685.

British Lit continued their work on paraphrasing "Elegy Written..." and were given the review questions 1-4 and 6-7 at the end of the selection for homework.

American Lit took their grammar quiz dealing with commas, colons, and semicolons. Then, they began "The Outcasts of Poker Flat" by Bret Harte. No homework this weekend.

British Lit covered the worksheet dealing with Boswell's account "The Life of Samuel Johnson." Next, it read "Elegy Written in a Country Church-yard" by Thomas Gray. Homework is to paraphrase stanzas 23-32.

American Lit listened to "The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" by Mark Twain. Projects DUE TOMORROW.

British Lit got back the AQWF tests and turned in the Golden Age of Satire Essay. Next, they listened to a brief lecture on the development of standard English and began Samuel Johnson's "Dictionary of the English Language." Vocab 9 Test tomorrow.

American Lit took the vocab 9 test today. Next, we discussed the "Questions of the Times" on page 616-17. Finally, some of the classes started to outline unit 4. Homework: FINISH YOUR RESEARCH for the presentation.

British Lit worked on a writing assignment from page 657 which dealt with the Golden Age of Satire. This assignment is due on Tuesday, typed. Then, we began to read "Candide" by Voltaire.

British Lit took the AQWF test today. "The Rape of Lock" questions, p.607 1-8 and 10, will be due tomorrow.

American Lit reviewed for the Gatsby test on Thursday; then, they covered semicolons and colons in a small packet. Finally, they were allowed to convene with their Gatsby Project group to divvy up the work.

British Lit reviewed for the AQWF Test on Thursday and then continued and finished "The Rape of Lock." They began to do the review questions 1-8 and 10.

American Lit received instructions regarding the 1920's presentation due NEXT WEDNESDAY. Groups will be assigned tomorrow. Next, the students watched several scenes from The Great Gatsby and noted 5 differences between the book and the movie. This sheet was turned in.

British Lit took a last reading quiz on AQWF and had their p.620 1-7 HW checked. Then, they got background on Neoclassicism and Pope, and began "The Rape of Lock."

British Lit took a reading quiz on chapters 6-10 and reviewed the worksheet for "The Spectator." They began to discuss "satire." Homework: finish chapter 10 and be ready to have the Samuel Pepys and Joseph Addison worksheets checked.

Mr. Carruth was out on Monday. American Lit reviewed Vocab 9 and began the exercises. They then continued The Great Gatsby. British Lit also reviewed Vocab 9 and continued All Quiet on the Western Front. 


On Tuesday, American Lit read vocab 9 definitions and then discussed chapter 3 of GG. Homework: Chapter 4.

British Lit reviewed the note-taking worksheet for Unit 3 and then began "The Diary of Samuel Pepys." Homework: finish chapter 7 of All Quiet on the Western Front.
